Episode 8 Drag Queens
The season finale opens with the three women—Victoria, Jenny, and Tiffany—standing in the parking lot, looking at their cars and contemplating the upcoming drag race. Victoria hatches a plan to “borrow” her son’s boyfriend, Chase’s, sports car while he’s away for a road game. They know Chase’s car is often illegally parked at the college but never towed, because as the starting quarterback, no one dares to tow him. Victoria contacts Frank “Black Chinese” for help, and he agrees to get the car and bring it to his garage.
Cut to Frank’s Garage, where Little Stevie, with his usual quirky charm, makes quick work of modifying the car. The women exchange Grease Lightning and Fast and Furious references, excited about the big night.
Meanwhile, Victoria invites her kids, Dylan and Stacey, out to lunch. During the meal, Dylan asks if the spa is making money. Victoria casually pulls out $10,000 in cash, casually explaining they are doing very well. Stacey is initially horrified by the money but finds a strange sense of respect for her mother’s entrepreneurial spirit. As the conversation shifts to the drag race, Dylan is fascinated and eager to see what will happen. Stacey, on the other hand, warns her mother that she is planning to sabotage Chase’s game—she calls him, claiming to be pregnant and wanting to keep the baby. Chase freaks out, knowing the consequences, especially with his controlling father.
It’s game day, but the focus shifts to the night’s drag race. At Frank’s shop, the car is finished, decked out and ready for action. Jenny asks jokingly, “Do we have to return it when we’re done? Can I drive it back to the spa?” Frank responds with a grin, “Let me finish it up and I’ll deliver it to the site.”
Back at the spa, business is steady when Robert, the yoga mom’s husband, walks in. Apologizing for his wife’s behavior, he asks for a massage and suggests that they teach his wife how to do this, offering to pay them for the lesson. Tiffany, ever the opportunist, agrees. Just as things start to settle, Victoria receives a certified letter from the IRS demanding documentation of the cash transactions. Victoria decides to let her ex-husband, the family’s accountant, handle it.
As evening falls, the women head out to the race. Frank pulls up with the modified car—a sleek 370z—ready for the big night. Little Stevie unloads it, just as JLL rolls in with his brand-new Corvette. The tension builds as the two vehicles face off. JLL taunts, “Which one of you is losing to me tonight?” The women confidently reply, “Where’s Hua?” ready to take on the challenge.
At the starting line, the two cars rev their engines, and the race begins. Jenny quickly takes the lead, but just as the finish line approaches, blue police lights flash in the rearview mirror. The excitement freezes in time as the screen cuts to black.
The credits roll with “I Ran” by A Flock of Seagulls playing in the background, leaving the outcome of the race—and the consequences of their actions—hanging in the air.
